September In Forth Class

September was a fantastic first month in Fourth Class! We have been very busy settling into our new classroom, getting to know one another and working together to create a happy, welcoming and positive place to learn.

We began the month by introducing ourselves and sharing some of our individual interests, hobbies and personalities. We explored how, although we are all unique, each person brings something special to our class. Inspired by the work of Charles McGee, we created colourful artwork to represent our individuality and how we all come together to make one unique class.

We also designed our own name plaques to proudly display on our classroom door.

A big focus throughout September was thinking about the kind of classroom we want to have. Together, we discussed what makes a classroom a place where everyone feels welcome, happy and eager to learn. From these discussions, we created and agreed upon our class rules, with everyone having a voice in how we want our classroom to look and feel.

We also spent time thinking about ourselves as learners and the importance of having a positive attitude towards learning. Using the song Hall of Fame, we explored some of its positive messages and discussed what different lyrics and quotes meant to us. The children then researched positive and inspiring quotes of their own and created posters for our Wellbeing Corner. These serve as great reminders to believe in ourselves, keep trying and encourage one another.

We also took a step back in time and investigated classrooms of the past. We compared school life then and now, looking at how classrooms, resources, teaching and the experiences of children have changed over the years. Working in groups, the children brought their learning to life by creating fantastic artwork, posters and 3D classroom models, showing classrooms from both the past and the present.

September was also an active month for Fourth Class! We had the opportunity to take part in athletics and tag rugby, which provided exciting days out for the class. The children really enjoyed getting involved, being active and representing the school alongside their classmates.

It has certainly been a busy and enjoyable start to Fourth Class! September has given us a wonderful start to the school year, and we are excited to see what is next.
